Nick’s on Broadway, a downtown Winnipeg eatery, is permanently closing due to financial difficulties. According to Restaurants Canada, 53% of Manitoba restaurants are losing money or just breaking even, compared to just 19% prior to the pandemic.
Ollie’s European Market, a restaurant serving German and other European cuisine, recently opened in Brandon.

American fast food chain Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers will open its first Canadian location in Winnipeg next spring. The Kildonan-area eatery will be the first of at least three franchise locations in the city and 20 across Canada. It will employ 50-60 staff.

The Cambridge Hotel, located on Winnipeg’s Pembina Highway, will permanently close next month after 86 years in business. The building is set to be replaced by a six-storey apartment complex with 87 residential suites. The developer, Pre-Con Builders, has not yet released a timeline for the project.

Tourism spending in Manitoba reached a record high of $1.82B in 2023, exceeding pre-pandemic levels for the second year in a row. At 10.3M, the number of tourism visits has also improved since the pandemic, but has yet to reach the 2019 record of 10.5M.
Fionn MacCools, an Irish-style pub and eatery, has closed its location in Winnipeg’s East Kildonan neighbourhood. The restaurant opened in 2019 but was hit hard by the pandemic, according to owners. One location still remains open near Grant Park Shopping Centre.
