Responsibilities
Tasks
-
Evaluate the effectiveness of social programs
-
Interview client individually, in families, or in groups, to assess their situation and problems to determine the types of services required
-
Investigate cases of child abuse or neglect
-
Take authorized protective action when necessary
-
Perform administrative tasks
-
Provide counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems
-
Plan programs of assistance for clients
-
Refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services
-
Provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues and methods
-
Advocate on client’s behalf in courts or at hearings
-
Lobby for solutions to problems affecting client groups
-
Provide consultation services to government and other organizations
-
Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and the patient’s outcomes
-
Develop prevention and intervention programs to meet community needs

Monitor and evaluate
-
Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team to plan, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate patient care in consultation with patients and their families

Refer clients to the appropriate external services
