Position Title: Director of Finance
Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary:
The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Il Centro Italian Cultural Centre Society, a not-for-profit organization. The Director will provide leadership in managing the organization?s financial strategies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and safeguarding the organization's financial health. This role involves managing financial planning, budgeting, accounting, reporting, and providing key financial insights to support the mission and goals of the organization.
Key Opportunities
* Support ED in engaging the Board and Finance Committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery
* Prepare budgets and forecasts; review all financial plans and compare results and identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
* Participate as part of the senior leadership team to ensure KPIs are established and reported on, and strategic priorities are executed
Key Responsibilities:
* Financial Management & Reporting:
o Oversee all financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and reporting.
o Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, projections and cash flow statements.
o Ensure that financial reports are accurate, timely, and comply with applicable accounting standards with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements (including charitable status)
o Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization has adequate liquidity to meet operational needs.
o Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing insights to the senior leadership team.
* Budgeting & Forecasting:
o Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to align the budget with strategic goals.
o Prepare periodic financial forecasts and recommend adjustments to achieve financial targets.
o Ensure that the budget is closely monitored, variances are explained, and corrective actions are implemented as needed.
* Compliance & Audit:
o Ensure the organization complies with all financial regulations, tax laws, and nonprofit reporting requirements.
o Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during annual audits and provide support to ensure timely and successful completion.
o Coordinate and liaise with Society trustees during annual reviews and support to ensure timely and successful completion.
o Monitor and ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting obligations.
o Maintain and update financial policies and procedures in accordance with best practices.
* Internal Controls & Risk Management:
o Develop and implement strong internal controls to safeguard the organization?s assets and prevent fraud or mismanagement.
o Assess and manage financial risks, implementing mitigation strategies where necessary.
o Prepare and submit all statutory filings including GST, PST, WCB, T4's, T4A's, T3010 and supporting documents
* Financial Strategy & Leadership:
o Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop long-term financial strategies that support the organization?s mission and sustainability.
o Participate in strategic planning and implementation and provide financial analysis of strategic alternatives through modelling and analysis
o Provide financial insight and recommendations for fundraising, program expansion, and investment opportunities.
o Assist in securing funding from grants, donations, and other sources by preparing financial documents and supporting the development team.
* Team Management & Development:
o Supervise and mentor a small finance team, providing guidance, professional development opportunities, and performance evaluations.
o Foster a culture of financial awareness and accountability across the organization.
