Planning TechnicianCompetition #38-2024 HOURS OF WORK: Full Time (37.5 hours per week) HOURLY RATE: $35.79/hour as per Collective Agreement START DATE: As soon as possible DUTIES: The Planning Technician supports the Planning and Sustainability Department by performing a variety of technical and administrative duties relating to community planning, sustainability, land use, development and other departmental and corporate priorities. Duties include, but are not limited to: Screening, responding, referring or resolving public inquiries and complaints using tact, judgement, persuasion and knowledge of City departments, bylaws, policies and procedures. Provide information to the public relating to zoning and other land/development related bylaws, policies and programs as well land use and development applications, permits and licences. Provide technical and administrative support to the department in processing of: land use and development applications, permits and licences as assigned; board of variance applications; sign permits; business, short-term rental and sidewalk café licences; public notices for zoning and OCP amendments, variances, dispositions, road closure and other bylaws; review and assess building plans in accordance with zoning and other applicable bylaws, policies and procedures and requests for property information and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) requests as required Create, maintain and update application forms, guides, handouts and other communications materials, and coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and minutes as required. Prepare general and sometimes confidential correspondence and documents. Provide technical and administrative support to organize, attend and implement meetings, events and programs for department and organization as requested. Prepare and coordinate Land Title filings for review and signature as required. Ensure all documentation and records are filed according to records management requirements.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION:Must have completed a minimum two-year diploma in a relevant post-secondary program of planning, geography, environment, or a related discipline.LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:A valid Class 5 BC Driver?s License.EXPERIENCE:Minimum of two years? experience in municipal planning or similar field. Work experience in a BC municipal setting is preferred.Qualifications must be outlined with verifications of education/certification attached.Interested applicants are requested to submit a Job Application Form or covering letter, resume, and Driver?s Abstract.
