Levitt LLP is a litigation boutique law firm downtown Toronto. We specialize in the areas of labour and employment law. We are looking for a full-time law clerk or paralegal with experience in employment law who can join our growing team.
This is a unique opportunity to work exclusively with one partner to provide services for one special client at the firm. In this position, you will have the opportunity to take on a significant level of responsibility, including carriage of Employment Standards Branch, HRTO, and Small Claims Court matters, as well as client management duties exclusively on the employer/management side. This role is for a licensed paralegal practitioner where you will have the opportunity to attend hearings, draft pleadings, motions, and other court submissions under the supervision of a lawyer. We are looking for a candidate with ambition, drive and confidence ? someone who seeks to be challenged in the performance of their work and is looking for long-term growth potential.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be performing the following activities:
* Communicating updates to the partner you will be working with, along with clients and opposing counsel;
* Scheduling motions, meetings, conference calls;
* Prepare first drafts of demand letters, pleadings, correspondence, agreements, affidavits of documents, court orders, administrative letters, and file closing letters;
* Have carriage of some of their own files; and,
* Tracking time spent on billable activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
You must be a law clerk with a P1 license and have previous experience:
* 2-5 years of experience in employment law is preferred;
* Alternatively, 3-5 years of litigation experience is required;
* Knowledge of the _Employment Standards Act, 2000;_
* Routine administrative duties;
* Exceptional customer service skills both in person and on the telephone;
* High degree of comfort working with lawyers, paralegals, and clients;
* Strong writing skills with legal drafting experience;
* You must be an excellent communicator; and,
* You must be able to take initiative, think critically and solve problems.
