Location: Kahnawake Survival School<br>Salary range: $80,028 to $103,916<br>Duration: 1 Full-Time, Indeterminate Position and 1-Fixed-Term position for the 2024/2025 School Year <br><br><strong>About Kahnawà:ke Education Center: </strong><br>The Kahnawà:ke Education Center is an administrative body responsible to deliver locally controlled elementary and secondary school programs and services for Kateri School, Karonhianónhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstahkhwa, and the Kahnawake Survival School. The KEC administers and supports postsecondary programs and their clients. The KEC is governed by the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) who are responsible to maintain and uphold all legislation, policies and procedures of the KEC. <br><br><strong>Position Summary:</strong><br>The Addictions Counsellor provides a confidential, safe, non-judgmental environment where a therapeutic relationship can be formed that facilitates treatment, prevention, and health promotion to students and their families. The primary role of the Addictions Counsellor is to provide specialized counselling, education and support services to students and their families by helping students understand and address substance abuse and related mental health issues. In addition, the Addictions Counsellor is responsible to provide school-wide awareness and prevention programs that focus on the use of drug and alcohol and vaping.<br><br><strong>Key Responsabilities: </strong><br><ul><li>To plan, develop, organize and provide counselling services to individual students and/or groups of students</li><li>To conduct screenings and thorough substance abuse assessments, including a detailed inventory of the type, amount, frequency, and consequences of the students? substance use, their perception of their use, and readiness to change</li><li>Develop treatment plans based on assessments with student input to help the student recover from substance use</li><li>Educate the students about various coping mechanisms they can use to develop healthy habits</li><li>Participate in crisis intervention as needed</li><li>Assess the need for specific prevention and awareness programs</li><li>Provide school-wide prevention-focused programs and services to help students to acquire knowledge and develop skills to engage in healthy behaviors and decision-making and to increase their awareness of the dangers and consequences of risky behaviors, including substance use and other harmful behaviors.</li><li>Prevention/awareness strategies can be delivered through the dissemination of information, prevention education, and other creative ways that engage the students</li><li>Determines the best course of action/treatment for student success in collaboration with the student, parent, teachers and student services team</li><li>Documents student progress and maintains clinical records</li><li>Maintains communication with parents/guardians regarding the progress of the student (if under the age of 14 years)</li><li>Maintains strict confidentiality guidelines regarding student referrals and information discussed in counselling sessions</li><li>Collaborates with external prevention and intervention service providers when required</li></ul><strong>Requirements: </strong><br><ul><li>Master?s degree in Social Work or other related field</li><li>Bachelor?s degree in Social Work with a minimum of 5 years of related experience</li><li>Must be an active member of the Professional Order of Social Workers or the Acquired Rights List</li><li>Addiction Counseling Certification with a recognized Addiction Certification Board</li><li>Thorough knowledge of substance abuse, cause and effects, evidence-based models of treatment intervention with youth</li><li>? Experience working with youth (high school level) in grief and trauma</li><li>Strong knowledge and comprehension of the pedagogical and administrative direction of the Kahnawà:ke Education System, as well as all school programs and services and how they function
