Reporting to the Manager, Building Inspections you will be responsible conducting on-site building reviews to ensure that the work complies with the approved drawings. In this challenging role, you will utilize your specialized knowledge while focusing on more complex and problematic buildings to ensure compliance with approved plans, bylaws, acts, codes standards and regulations. You will utilize your analytical skills to provide interpretations and applicability of code requirements, product and alternative solution evaluations, construction methods and other City bylaws and then communicate these decisions to customers, staff and the public. Strong communication skills are essential as you work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to answer inquiries and provide technical guidance. Your ability to coach and mentor junior staff will be invaluable as you help coordinate, assign work to and assist less experienced staff. Thorough knowledge of the: BC Building Code, BC Fire Code, Canadian Farm Building Code, applicable NFPA standards, the Building Bylaw and other applicable City bylaws, policies and regulations, including Workers? Compensation Legislation along with your demonstrated ability to conduct plan and building reviews will guide your success in this position. In order to be considered for this position you must have: Membership with the Building Officials? Association of BC (BOABC) or Alliance of Canadian Building Officials Association One to four years of experience working in a municipal setting Diploma in Building Technology or Journeyman Trade Certificate One to four years of experience working in building construction or design or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; Successful completion of a BOABC Level I, II or III examination; Valid Class 5 BC Driver?s Licence. This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $42.46 to $55.15, depending on level of Certification. The City of Abbotsford has committed to systematically promoting building officials, as they obtain higher levels of certification. The systematic promotion of building officials means, when you successfully achieve Building Level 2 Certification from the Building Officials? Association of BC (BOABC), you will be promoted to the position of Building Inspector II. When you have successfully obtained your Building Level 3 Certification and Registered Building Official (RBO) designation, you will be promoted in position to Building Official III.
