Municipality of North CowichanSubdivision and Development Coordinator(Temporary)The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 31,900) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. The Municipality provides a stable and varied work environment, competitive pay and benefits.We are inviting applications from candidates with the proven qualifications, skills and abilities for the position of Subdivision and Development Coordinator on a full-time temporary basis for up to 12 months or until the return of the incumbent. The successful candidate will be very organized and detail oriented, possess excellent analytical skills, and is a good communicator both oral and written. If you are self-motivated, looking to take on a new challenge where you can make a difference, enjoy both responsibility and accountability, and are ready to join one of British Columbia?s most inclusive and environmentally conscious municipalities, we look forward to receiving your application!The Subdivision and Development Coordinator?s primary responsibilities are to support the Manager, Development and Subdivision in the coordination and processing of subdivision and development applications, including referrals, preparation of reports and file management.Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities: A CIP-accredited degree in planning or related discipline (regional, community, natural resource/environmental, civil engineering, geography, urban studies); or a diploma with an equivalent level of education and experience. Membership or eligibility for membership in PIBC and CIP (candidate or full member), ASSTBC. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required. Demonstrable experience in subdivision approval procedures, interpretation of bylaws, Official Community Plans, Local Government Act and related legislation in BC. An ability to gather, interpret and compile complex planning, environmental, economic, engineering and design data in technical reports. An ability to communicate in a clear, concise and considerate manner (e.g. emails and other correspondence to the public, committee and Council reports, reports to internal and external departments, answering enquiries, and presenting planning reports). Proficient in GIS systems, particularly ArcGIS. Experience in the use of other design and technical software will be considered an asset (e.g. InDesign, Google Sketch-Up, and AutoCAD). This is a unionized position (CUPE Local 358) and the collective agreement may be viewed on our website.Candidates being considered will be required to undergo a comprehensive evaluation of skills, qualifications, and abilities.
