Job details
*Who we are:*
Taiv is a fast-growing tech startup located in Winnipeg, Canada. Taiv uses AI to make business TV more fun, engaging, profitable, and easier to manage, starting with bars and restaurants. We?ve built proprietary tech that uses computer vision to watch live TV and improve the content with contextually-aware commercials, content, and games. Our tech also automates the manual AV tasks that venues have to do every day, to make bar management easier, standardized, and more profitable. We?re venture-capital backed and graduated from Y Combinator, the world?s top tech accelerator, in winter 2020. Program alumni include Airbnb, Instacart, DoorDash, etc. (www.ycombinator.com/topcompanies).
What we're looking for:
We're looking for a junior firmware developer with 1-3 years of experience who is self-motivated and eager to grow with our early-stage company. We develop our own custom hardware with proprietary firmware running on every board. The role primarily focuses on developing Linux drivers, compiling Linux/Android, writing firmware for microcontrollers, and debugging circuits. As we're growing quickly, you'll have the opportunity to wear many hats and develop expertise in your chosen areas. You'll take ownership of important projects and play a vital role in solving complex problems as we scale to millions of units.
*Requirements:*
* Experience in designing, testing, building, and deploying projects
* Strong work ethic and ability to learn quickly
* Passion for startups and desire to make meaningful impact
* Strong understanding of embedded systems
* Proficiency with Git and version control
* Excellent teamwork and cross-departmental collaboration skills
* Advanced problem-solving and debugging abilities
* Hands-on experience with circuit debugging tools, including multimeters and oscilloscopes
*Nice to Haves:*
* Experience with Linux kernel or AOSP compilation
* Experience with single-board computers like Beaglebone or Raspberry Pi
* Skilled in Makefiles and cross-compilation
* Proficiency with Linux command-line tools
* Familiarity with audio/video systems and terminology
* Knowledge of RISC architecture
* Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering (or graduating soon)
*Our Tech:*
We have really cool tech - we build our own hardware and use a heuristics-based computer vision approach for classification. We?re the first (and only) company in the world that can detect TV commercials accurately. Our boards run custom firmware and are constantly being improved.
*Skills:*
* Knowledge in AV equipment systems (CVBS, Component, HDMI, splitters, multiviewers, etc)
* Serial communication protocols (UART, SPI, I²C, etc.)
* Android development
* Programming languages: C, C++, and Java
* Scripting languages: Python and Bash
* Version control systems, particularly Git
*Perks:*
* Employee stock options
* 100% employer-covered Health Benefits
