*Full-time Pharmacy Assistant*
*SUMMARY:*
A member of a busy innovative team, the pharmacy assistant is responsible for working with the clinical pharmacists to provide quality healthcare services to our patients and helping with the upkeep of the store. Maintaining a positive attitude, answering telephones, blistering packing and assisting in delivering person-centred care are key elements of this job.
*CORE COMPETENCIES:*
* Cognitive demands: ability to interpret an extensive variety of pharmacy-related information
* Organizational skills: ability to multitask, prioritize, and respect deadlines
* Physical: the ability to lift up to 25 lbs, sit or stand for long hours, and perform repetitive tasks is important for this position. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to count medications is required
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* Work effectively on a pharmacy team
* Answer phone calls and reliably assist patients
* Assist Clinical Pharmacist in preparing, dispensing, and stocking medications and supplies
* Prepare medications for dispensing into bottles and blister packaging
* Place and receive medication orders
* Collect patient information for prescription, clinical services, and billing
* Read and interpret physician prescriptions received in the pharmacy and transcribing this information into the pharmacy software for the appropriate patient
* Continuous development knowledge and proficiency with pharmacy software (ex. Kroll, PK Software, etc.)
* Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives
* Assist Pharmacy Manager in keeping inventory for dispensary, compounding, and in general pharmacy management (including but not limited to receiving orders, removing expired medications, checking for recalls, etc.)
* Clean the pharmacy and front store
* Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Pharmacist and/or the Pharmacy Manager
* Act in the best interest of the pharmacy at all times
*Qualifications:*
* At least 1 year experience in a pharmacy
* History of excellent customer service
* Evidence of additional training a major asset
* Demonstrated non-sterile compounding experience is a major asset. *Candidate elligible for higher starting wage*
* Demonstrated ability in problem solving using sound judgment, critical thinking, and technical knowledge
* Knowledge and problem-solving will be tested during interview
* Typing test to determine wpm and error rate may also be administered
* Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a busy team
* Prepare medications for dispensing into bottles and blister packaging
