*The Role*
The Assistant Manager of Environment ensures compliance with local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations by conducting audits, reviewing processes, and collaborating with departments to address non-compliance. The role supports managers in developing and implementing environmental strategies, responding to regulatory changes, and promoting sustainable development by minimizing operational impact, recommending corrective actions, and preventing violations.
*Key Accountabilities*
Environmental Compliance Management
· Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective Environmental Compliance Management system.
· Collaborate with peers to implement improvement opportunities in environmental performance and reporting.
Risk Management
· Ensure Steelworks operations manage environmental risks to comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
· Supervise regular environmental audits to monitor corporate environmental performance.
Government Relations
· Advise on relevant regulatory changes and industry best practices.
· Promote and facilitate the implementation of safe, cost-effective, and commercially proven environmental management processes and controls.
Project Development
· Assist in developing projects to address legacy environmental issues in compliance with the Legacy Environmental Action Plan (LEAP) and closed property commitments.
Corporate Strategy Support
· Support corporate strategy development in sustainability, by-product monetization, ESG, and other environmental objectives.
Strategic Initiatives and Government Affairs
· Align environmental compliance and sustainability efforts with business objectives and regulatory advocacy.
· Collaborate with the government affairs team to track regulatory changes and integrate them into environmental strategies.
*Core Competencies and Skills Required*
* University degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a comparable field.
* 3-5 years of relevant experience.
* Supervisory experience.
* Strong project management skills, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
