*PAY RATE:* $21.69 to $26.03 per hour

*SUMMARY OF THE POSITION *
The Peer Support Worker uses and shares their personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first-hand insight into mental health services to inform programming to benefit those supported within the organization. They will provide expertise and perspective about the benefits of peer-to-peer support groups and the important knowledge held by those with lived experience in informing service provision. The successful candidate will develop and facilitate peer groups, and develop and inform service provision, policy and processes aligned with best practice in the delivery of peer support programs. In addition to peer support, the successful candidate will support the organization in coordination and logistics, inclusive but not limited to, event coordination, Board and administration support, and other duties as assigned by the Senior Leadership Team.
*Peer Coordination *
* Provide peer counseling and support, drawing on common experiences as a peer, to validate client experiences and to provide guidance and encouragement to take responsibility and actively participate in their own recovery.
* Develop and facilitate peer-based groups.
* Provide expertise and consultation, from a client perspective to develop peer-based program development.
* Collaborate with the organization to promote a culture in which clients? point of view, experiences and preferences are recognized, understood, and respected, and in which clients? self-determination and decision-making in treatment planning are maximized and supported.
* Help clients identify and combat stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and develop strategies to reduce self-stigma.
*Agency Support *
* Provide administrative support for various departments and stakeholders.
* Scheduling of events, meetings and other initiatives.
* Provide event coordination for All-Staff meetings, holiday parties, public events as needed, inclusive of set up and tear down.
* Support the Board by attending monthly Board meetings, ordering food and taking / circulating minutes and other related administrative tasks.
* Provide support to the agency through ordering materials and coordinating special tasks as needed.
* Other administrative tasks as assigned.
*HOURS OF WORK *
The Peer Support Worker will work a thirty-five (35) hour week, the hours being flexible to the needs of the team.
*ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS*
* Minimum High School diploma; post-secondary human services education an asset.
* Knowledge and ability to demonstrate professional boundaries of the peer support role.
* Experience working in a peer role in health-care setting; mental health experience an asset.
* Demonstrated ability to work within the organization?s mission and values.
* Knowledge of the self-help movement.
* Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
* Willing to travel extensively within the catchment area.
* Must have a valid Ontario driver?s license, relevant insurance and use of a reliable vehicle or effectively uses transportation to travel independently in the organizations service area.
