<p> <p>School District No. 20 (Kootenay-Columbia)<p>Teaching Vacancy<p>2024-2025 <p> <p>Posting Date: November 18, 2024<p> <p> <p><p>Competition # 24-T-94<p>Stanley Humphries Secondary School<p>1.0 FTE Student Support Teacher (SST) <p>Temporary: November 20, 2024 - December 20, 2024 or full return of the incumbent<p> NOTE: This assignment may end prior to the end date, or it may be extended.<p> <p> <p> <p>Qualifications: <p><p> BC Certification<p> Bachelor of Education with a focus on Special Education or equivalent training that includes coursework in the following areas:<p> Previous teaching experience in Special Education at the secondary level<p> Previous successful experience teaching at the secondary level is preferred<p> Expertise in a wide range of teaching and behavioural management strategies including skill development in social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and social skills<p> Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of diverse needs<p> Working knowledge of behaviour support planning and implementing safety plans<p> Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to help facilitate intervention programs; strong understanding of various intervention programs and strategies<p> Ability to set up and facilitate meetings, with school staff, itinerants, and outside agencies<p> Knowledge and understanding of child and youth mental health issues<p> Ability to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of norm-referenced assessment instruments to Level B<p> Ability to develop, implement and evaluate an IEP in consultation with classroom teacher(s), parents, students, staff and district and community resource personnel<p> Formal training and experience administering Woodcock Johnson IV Achievement Test battery<p> Working knowledge of computer-based learning software (i.e. Read and Write, EquatIO, G Suite, Moodle, Microsoft Office apps, Microsoft Sharepoint etc.)<p> Working knowledge of assistive software (i.e. Boardmaker, SETBC, ARC BC, Lessonpix, iPage apps etc.)<p> Working knowledge and ability to facilitate the use of the school?s Sensory Lab.<p> Direct, supervise and support the work of Educational Assistants/Child Care Workers<p> An understanding of inclusion and how to support the school community towards this belief set/value<p> Ability to support, model, co-teach and collaborate around best practice to support an inclusive classroom<p> Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment<p> Strong organizational skills<p> Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills<p><p> <p>For further information please contact Mr. Ian Cooper, Principal, at (250) 365-7735 ext 300.<p> <p>The annual salary for this position ranges from $58,579 to $108,088, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.<p> <p>Applications should be sent to Mrs. Marcy VanKoughnett, Assistant Superintendent - Human Resources, School District No. 20 (Kootenay-Columbia) by 12:00 (Noon), November 20, 2024. <p> <p>Please note we only accept online applications.
