This is a joint position with Montfort Hospital and Recovery Care. As an integral role in Recovery Care?s service delivery model, the Physician Assistant will join a large group of healthcare professionals and administrative staff which includes physicians, Physician Assistants, nurses, counsellors, medical office assistants and social service workers. The Physician Assistant provides a wide range of services under the supervision of licensed physicians including comprehensive triage, medical assessment, diagnosis, crisis support and treatment to patients with varied health, social, cultural, and economic barriers. The focus will be in the provision of primary care, mental health, infectious disease treatment, substance use management and harm reduction. The Physician Assistant will be provided with educational opportunities to familiarize them with Addictions Medicine, and will also have the opportunity to participate in new program development and research through Montfort Hospital.

*Roles & Responsibilities:*
Reporting to Recovery Care Management and the Administrative Director of the Medical Department at Montfort, and in accordance with the Delegation of Controlled Acts Policy of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Physician Assistant will work under the supervision of the physician in charge of the care sector and will help provide care and ensure patient flow in both clinic and hospital settings. The incumbent will work within interdisciplinary teams to provide quality, patient-centred care. Their tasks include:
· Take part in diagnostic workup and care plans.
· Perform initial inpatient assessments (interview, medical history, medication, physical examination, including vital signs and procedures).
· Obtain comprehensive and focused health histories as appropriate.
· Conduct comprehensive, focused physical and mental health assessments and interpret findings, including vital signs and examination of all major body systems.
· Conduct and lead rapid assessments of critical events on-site (e.g., overdose, intoxication, psychosis).
· Order and interpret relevant diagnostic tests, including hematology, microbiology, chemistry, serology, urinalysis, and imaging.
· Manage hospitalized patients, including evaluating them following treatment.
· Determine restrictions (dietary, activity, fluid management, oxygen requirements, vital signs monitoring, anti-embolism therapy, tracheostomy care, feeding tubes, bladder management, etc.) and manage various needs specific to each patient.
· Prescribe various medications in accordance with individual scope of practice and medical guidelines.
· Plan patient discharge by writing discharge orders, instructions for follow-up, and patient education.
· Perform diagnostic procedures on-site, such as ECG, dried blood spotting, HCV point-of-care testing, urine drug screening, collection of specimens and fluid for analysis, Fibroscan (training provided), incision and drainage, suture placement and removal, and staple removal.
· Formulate and activate treatment and management plans based on assessment and/or investigations.
· Provide primary care and walk-in based services to Recovery Care and Safer Supply Ottawa patients.
· Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide the best outcomes for patients.
· Provide low barrier, patient-centered care for patients.
· Work collaboratively with addiction physicians to provide cross coverage for patients in treatment for substance use disorders and enrolled in Safer Supply Harm Reduction.
· Work collaboratively with community partners.
