*HAIRSTYLIST* *Supervision* Under general direction of and responsible to the Environmental Services Manager *Qualifications for the Hairstylists are:* · Post-Secondary school education · Valid Journeyman Certificate through Ontario College of Trades · Previous experience in long term care and/or senior hairdressing, barber services and familiarity with the use of hairdressing salon equipment · Knowledge and experience of Ontario College of Trades competencies and skill sets for Hairstylists · Ability to follow direction and ability to direct and guide others · Ability to perform routine tasks and understand oral and written directions *Hairstylists must have a good understanding of the following:* *Budget* · Operate within the approved Hairdressing budget *Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Facilities Standards* · Be in compliance where applicable · Follow department policies and procedures *Continuous Quality Improvement/ Education* · Participate in orientation, training, and mandatory retraining in accordance with evidence-based practices and/or prevailing practices relevant to responsibilities within the department and Home · Maintain active hairstylist license *Leadership* · Ensuring policies and procedures are being adhered to · Notify the Director of Support Services and/or Support Services Assistant of any problems in the department · Ensure routine department operations are performed · As necessary, receiving supplies and notifying the Director of Support Services and/or Support Services Assistant or Director of Maintenance for malfunctioning equipment within the department *Staffing* · Participate in orientation and training of new staff · Ensure co-workers follow Health & Safety program provisions *Collective Agreement* · Be knowledgeable of the Collective Agreement and how it affects Hairdressing Personnel · Abide by the terms of the Collective Agreement *Security* · Adhere to the designated security systems (i.e. locking Hair Salon and stock rooms) · Have a good understanding in emergency procedures, record keeping, inventory control *Sanitation* · Be in compliance with the Public Health Regulations · Must be fully aware of areas of cleaning responsibilities *Purchasing* · Make purchases from approved suppliers based on the master ordering schedule when authorized by the Director of Support Services and/or Support Service Assistant *Receiving and Storage* · Check supplies and problems noted prior to signing invoices (i.e. product missing, product damaged) · Ensure proper storage procedures · Ensure items are labelled and dated, if necessary *Equipment* · Should understand all hair salon equipment and report any malfunctions to the Director of Support Services, Support Services Assistant or Director of Maintenance · Notify the Director of Support Services and/or Support Services Assistant of equipment needs · Ensure proper care, use and maintenance of equipment *Physical Demands* · Stand and walk short distances · Bending and lifting · Uses and handles hair salon equipment · Working at a fast pace · Working in extreme temperatures *Mental Demands* · May be stressful at times, requires patience and understanding · An obvious aptitude for working with geriatric residents *WORKING CONDITIONS* A modern temperature controlled, smoke free environment with a combination of natural and fluorescent lighting. Some disruption to lifestyle resulting from extra hours spent dealing with and responding to emergencies and attending meetings.
