Harbours Initiatives Coordinator - Harbours and Watersheds ProgramReq ID: 1103 Business Unit: Parks Recreation and Environmental Services Division: Environmental ProtectionRegular/ Auxiliary: RegularPay Grade: CAN/05/02/J16 Rate of Pay: $42.97 - $48.72 per hour Hours of Work: Part-time - 35 hours bi-weeklyPosting Date: November 8, 2024Closing Date: November 22, 2024SummaryThe position will work to coordinate and implement collaborative community-driven stewardship initiatives and projects for harbour and watershed areas in the Capital Regional District. Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesWorks with the various stakeholders to create a multi-year program and schedule of activities and costs to implement community-driven stewardship plans. Seeks and acquires external funding for the plan implementation. Oversees the external funding contracts. Coordinates the implementation of harbour and watershed stewardship strategies. Organizes and facilitates stakeholder committee meetings and liaises with committee members. Coordinates and/or supports a broad range of projects including but not limited to those involving municipal infrastructure, shoreline and riparian restoration, aquatic invasive species monitoring, community science initiatives, speaker series events, green infrastructure and ecological inventories. Works with the municipalities involved to review environmental regulations, identify gaps and implement new tools. Monitors and reports on plan implementation progress. Maintains and updates relevant program websites. Prepares annual work plans and associated program budgets. Oversees and engages consultants - develops scope of work, evaluates proposals, and reviews final reports. Prepares technical and information reports. Makes presentations to community, environmental groups and government agencies. Promotes improved water quality in collaboration with CRD monitoring staff, municipalities and community stewards. Coordinating volunteer monitoring and citizen science initiatives. Leads, develops and promotes harbour stewardship, outreach and community engagement. Works to expand business and community capacity for the stewardship of regional watersheds. Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD. Performs other related duties as required. Key Skills & AbilitiesExcellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required. Experience in overseeing environmental protection projects Experience in researching and writing funding proposals Sound knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations and bylaws Experience related to municipal infrastructure, freshwater and nearshore marine systems, watershed protection, stormwater contaminants and green infrastructure. Experience working with business, community, special interest and multi-stakeholder groups Experience working with municipal engineering and planning departments and provincial and federal staff Outreach experience: community stewardship and outreach, website content development, including an understanding and use of social media. Knowledge of and ability to use various computer word processing, spreadsheet and project scheduling programs and databases. GIS experience would be an asset. Well-developed organizational and technical writing Ability to work as part of a team, respond to broad direction, use initiative, be innovative and produce results without detailed supervision.
