(Ucluelet) Government is a modern treaty government located in the community of hitac?u, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, on the eastern shore of the beautiful and serene Ucluelet Inlet.There are currently approximately 700 Yuu?u?i??ath? Citizens located in hitac?u, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Victoria, Vancouver, Campbell River, and across Canada and the United States. Our Government jurisdiction extends over nearly 5,500 hectares of Treaty Settlement Land surrounding the community of hitac?u, as well as territory north of Ucluelet, in the Effingham Inlet and along the Nahmint River.The Yuu?u?i??ath? Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa-nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to-government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. Also, a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, the Yuu?u?i??ath? Government continues to promote education and community programs that enhance Yuu?u?i??ath? and Nuu-chah-nulth identity. Yuu?u?i??ath? asserts that we have exercised sovereign authority over our lands since time immemorial. Despite the arrival of settlers on our lands, Yuu?u?i??ath? has preserved and protected our traditional territories and we accept the obligations and responsibilities inherent in governing. Yuu?u?i??ath? ?people of the calm harbour? have lived on the west coast of Vancouver Island for thousands of years. We are one of the 14 Nuu-chah-nulth Nations. Nuu-chah-nulth means ?all along the mountains and the sea?. The Nuu-chah-nulth people share a rich cultural heritage that has instilled in us a world view that is uniquely ours.WHAT IT?S LIKE TO WORK HEREIt is the desire of the Yuu?u?i??ath? We Yuu?u?i??ath? believe we are making change and making our home a better place by looking after each other and our h?ah?uu?i (territory) and ?im?aqsti (mind, will power, spirit).THE CAO ROLEReporting to the President and the Executive, the Chief Administrative Officer will lead the administration and operational affairs of the Yuu?u?i??ath? Government, ensuring alignment with Yuu?u?i??ath? laws, policies, and standards. This role encompasses policy development, human resource management, financial oversight, and strategic planning.WHO YOU AREWe are looking for a CAO who is passionate about building organizational culture and infrastructure in an Indigenous Organization. The ideal candidate is excited to lead the evolution of our systems, policies, and practices to meet our growing needs. You are a collaborative and thoughtful leader who communicates clearly and honestly, engages people in planning and decision-making processes, and translates your commitment to community and all of its people. You have exceptional relationship building skills and strong financial acumen. WHAT YOU WILL DOReporting directly to the President on a daily basis and ultimately to the Executive, the CAO will lead and manage the administrative and operational functions of the Yuu?u?i??ath? Government, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and policies.
