The Journeyperson Welder?s key responsibility is to operate welding equipment to weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks is an integral part of the work. Welders work in a variety of environments. They may work outdoors at a remote site, outside in a marine environment, offshore, outside in shop yard or in the shop itself. He/she must work well independently or in a team environment and provide analyses/recommendations directly to the Welding Shop Foreman. Welders may also perform duties within their capabilities in addition to those identified in this job description.
*Main Duties:*
· Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
· Layout patterns and make shop sketches
· Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-core arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, oxy-acetylene, resistance welding and submerged arc welding
· Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
· Operate brazing or soldering equipment
· Select filler rods
· Operate metal shaping machines such as shears, brakes, and other metal straightening or bending machines
· Operate hoisting and lifting equipment
· Fabricate metal parts and products
· Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers
· Assist with the maintenance and repair of welding, brazing, and soldering equipment
· Record hours and materials on timecards to satisfy QA & Payroll requirements
· Encourage and instruct apprentices as Required
· Provide quality work in a timely and efficient manner
· Other duties within the incumbent?s capabilities as required
*Requirements:*
· Be physically fit and possess good hand ? eye coordination and manual dexterity
· Pay attention to detail
· Have excellent communication skills
· Be able to work shift work and overtime when required
*HSEQ Responsibilities:*
· Carry out work in accordance with established procedures
· Participate in the Act of Vigilance (AOV) program
· Report failures to meet requirements (nonconformances) and identify opportunities to improve
· All personnel are responsible for complying with regulatory and corporate HSE and Quality requirements, including those related to product and the protection of people and the environment
*Qualifications and Competency Requirements:*
· 1 ? 3 years relevant work experience
· Completion of a 5400 hour Welding Program
· Journeyman Welder Interprovincial Certification
· CWB and/or ASME certification
· Marine experience, BST and H2S certificates are assets
· Possess valid driver?s license
· Shift Work, Overtime and out of province travel may be required
