Areas of responsibility may include: <p>School Communities <p>The Safe and Inclusive Schools Team including The H.O.P.E.S team (for students who have been suspended for 6 or more days or expelled) <p>The Welcome Centre (for newcomers, refugees, and international students)HDSB Social Workers are capable of providing short-term individual and/or group counselling as well as support to parents and families. They provide comprehensive support and case management and are knowledgeable of local and regional community resources. HDSB Social Workers have knowledge related to bullying prevention and intervention, including training in restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies. Responsibilities will include: <p>Offer problem-solving and consultation services around student needs to develop supportive strategies to enhance student success <p>Provide support and service rooted in cultural responsiveness, anti-racism, and anti-oppressive practices<p>Help students, families and schools in relation to mental health, emotional, social and behavioural concerns<p>Support students who are suspended or expelled and their families<p>Provide anger management, social skills, conflict resolution, life skills, and work skills<p>Provide social work services to newcomers, refugees and international students and their families during students' transition to school<p>Support schools and communities around issues of bullying prevention/intervention and other issues related to school safety including Violence Threat Risk Assessment and Restorative Practices Minimum Qualifications: <p>Masters Degree in Social Work <p>Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers<p>Strong verbal and written communication skills <p>Access to reliable transportation Preferred Qualifications: <p>Experience working in a school board setting <p>Experience working with students, parents, educators and other school-based staff, police and community partners, including students at risk <p>Experience supporting individuals from a variety of lived experiences (socio-economic, cultural, etc.,)<p>Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group<p>Broad understanding of and an inclusive approach to relationship building with diverse stakeholders in the community and in schools<p>Experience with crisis management support<p>Appointments are conditional upon: <p>Provision of an original copy of a criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening dated within 6 months
