People like you!This is supervisory technical work in planning, assigning, supervising and checking the work of subordinate foremen and crews engaged in the construction, maintenance and repair of the Municipal water system. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, supervising and checking, both directly and through subordinate foremen, the work of crews engaged in labouring, truck driving and equipment operation. A Foreman 3 - Waterworks coordinates the work of external contractors and utilities to ensure efficient and effective use of equipment and crews; schedules work to accommodate emergencies and availability of equipment, trucks and external inspectors, prepares requisitions and purchase orders for materials, tools and equipment, inspects work during progress and upon completion for workmanship and conformance with Municipal standards, investigates complaints, takes necessary action and provides follow-up. Duties also include monitoring expenditures against budget allocations and cost estimates, compiling cost figures and supporting rationale for variances in expenditures; preparing reports for damage done by Municipal crews or water works, ensuring accurate and complete documentation of the incident and preparing a variety of forms related to the work. An incumbent will establish work norms and safe work methods, ensures the safety of work crews and the public; assist with selecting, allocating, and motivating staff. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related technical courses, plus considerable related experience in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Through knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used and hazards and safety precautions related to the work; knowledge of the applicable departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures. An incumbent will have the ability to plan, assign, supervise and check the work of a number of subordinate foremen and crews, schedule maintenance and construction projects and to provide emergency repairs. Along with the ability to read blueprints sketches, plans and diagrams, order materials, hire equipment, monitor and rationalize expenditures; conduct performance evaluations, establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. A Driver?s License for the Province of British Columbia and EOCP - Water Distribution Level III Certificate are required. The successful candidate will be required to accept standby and call-out work assignments as required by the department.Salary: $46.07 - 48.09 - 50.13/hour(EOCP Level 3 Premium: $1.50 per hour) Foreman 3 who report to work one-half hour extra each day shall be paid two pay grades in addition to their normal rate of pay, equaling an additional $4.06 per hour for such days, except where call outs occur.The closing date for this competition has been extended until October 25, 2024.
