Job title: Workplace Essential Skills (WES) Program Learning CoachReports to: Executive DirectorStart date: October 15, 2024 (flexible)End date: April 11, 2025Job PurposeWorkplace Essential Skills (WES) Program aims to help adults who are underemployed or seeking employment and require additional essential skills to succeed. WES training uses a blended model of group activities related to improving workplace competencies along with learning plans individualized to fit each participant's career and educational needs (i.e. preparation for certification exams such as GED, Test of Workplace Essential Skills - TOWES, and trades Red Seal). Group activities are based on the nine Skills for Success (formerly Essential Skills - identified by the Government of Canada as being needed in the workplace), emerging ideas from participants' discussions and skill development areas relating to individual learning and career goals. Thematic areas include math, reading, teamwork, communication, personal/professional development, cultural diversity, global awareness, digital technology, career development, etc.The WES Program Coach needs to be flexible, adaptable, and compassionate, while at the same time coaching learners to move beyond their comfort zone (using a scaffolded and strength-based approach). The Coach will be responsible for program delivery and learning environment and be supported in that role by members of the WES Team. They should have an awareness of roadblocks to life and learning that many adults face, and a willingness to nurture a deeper understanding of how these barriers may have affected a learner's educational experience in the past.Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities for the WES Program Coach include:creating and maintaining a welcoming and safe learning environment;understanding and accommodating each learner's learning style and their changing needs;completing assessments with learners and giving feedback on materials completed;assisting learners with developing their individual learning plans (ILPs) based on their life/career/education goals;identifying and preparing learning materials;delivering curriculum and providing instruction to prepare for the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) - the new GED;facilitating group-based employability skills workshops;maintaining learner records for each learner's ILP;participating in learning and professional development training opportunities;reflecting on practices and teaching materials and contributing to the ongoing improvement of the program;meeting regularly with learners and the WES Program Coordinator;providing feedback to case managers on learner progress.Education and ExperienceA Bachelor's degree or college diploma in fields relating to adult education, education, or demonstrated expertise in the field of adult education is requiredKnowledge of Skills for Success (Essential Skills) and experience in the integration of these skills into an adult learning program is considered a definite assetCompetenciesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsSolid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitaskingSkilled at working effectively with teamsExcellent proficiency in digital technology skills required to perform job responsibilitiesStrong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one's sleeves to get the job doneSkilled at providing timely, effective feedback to both learners and team membersOpen to learning and accepting feedback from team membersStrong ability to motivate and engage learnersNotesProgram delivery 20 weeks, total contract length 22 weeksClass size is up to 5-6 peopleInstructor hours are Tuesday-Thursday (days may vary), 8:30 am-4:30 pm (3 days or 22.5 hours per week)Hourly rate, min $30.00, or based on experiencePaid statutory holidays, mercs and vacation payChristmas Break and March Break (unpaid)DEADLINE for applications (resume no longer than 2 pages and cover letter): Noon, Friday, October 11, 2024Conta
