The City of Victoria is recruiting for a Recreation Programmer. The Recreation Programmer will plan and coordinate a diverse and evolving portfolio of activities based on the needs of the community and Council Strategic Priorities. Experience engaging with the equity deserving groups in the community and creating programs and events related to equity, diversity and inclusion would be an asset. As part of the Recreation Services team, this position builds the divisions capacity to provide and imbed equity into programs and initiatives through the removal of systemic barriers. This role will work with the public and community organizations to increase and enable participation in recreation programs for equity-deserving groups. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction. POSITION FUNCTIONCoordinate and participate in the direct programming of one or more specific program areas and special events within the Recreation and Community Development Division.KEY DUTIESPlan, coordinate, implement and evaluate recreation programs and special events such as. sports, outdoor recreation, social recreation, fitness, ice and arts programming. Draft program information for seasonal brochure distribution and make recommendations on other marketing initiatives. Provide input to the development of program policies and procedures. Coordinate the use of facilities and work with facility maintenance to ensure equipment safety. Maintain and operate within program budget as detailed and make routine program purchases; prepare draft budget estimates for specific programs and/or facility areas; provide input into capital budget requests for programs and services; provide input to purchasing process where applicable. Prepare grant submissions for program enhancements or pilot projects. Co-ordinate, review and evaluate the work of various program staff (up to 3 FTE) and facilities; ensure procedures and established performance and safety standards are met; provide input to employee performance appraisals; assist with and/or develop and deliver in-house training sessions; complete time sheets. Liaise with various community groups and associations to promote recreation program and services; participate in various related internal and external committees. Select and coordinate the work of program contract instructors; review of work carried out by program contractor instructors as required to ensure compliance with contract specifications and safety standards. Respond to enquiries and complaints from staff and the public/user groups regarding programming and scheduling. Provide facilitation between user groups as needed. Perform related duties where
