Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work site environment: Confined spaces. Noisy. Non-smoking. Work setting: Various locations. Commercial. Industrial. Institutional. Mechanical and service company. Residential. Tasks: Install gas heating units and their components. Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment. Service gas heating units and their components. Install and maintain meters and regulators and gas lines between gas unit and gas meter. Repair and service gas appliances and related equipment. Instruct apprentices. Advise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systems. Supervise other workers. Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials required. Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices. Estimate costs and materials. Test and replace defective equipment or components. Convert motor vehicles or appliances to use other fuels (e.g. propane or natural gas). Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Gas Fitter Trade Certification. Occupational Health and Safety Certificate. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 1 or A. Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 2 or B. Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 3 or C. Working at heights training. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel. Travel expenses paid by employer. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Tight deadlines. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Standing for extended periods.
