Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Plumbing technology/plumber. Plumbing and related water supply services, other. or equivalent experience. Level of expertise: Maintenance and repair. Tasks: Prepare production and other reports. Resolve work problems, provide technical advice and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality. Train or arrange for training. Prepare bids. Estimate costs and materials. Operate CADD and other computer software systems. Co-ordinate and schedule activities. Ensure health and safety regulations are followed. Requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies. Supervise other workers. Schedule personnel, tools and equipment. Prepare tenders and quotations. Operate brakes, shears and other metal shaping, straightening and bending machines. Instruct apprentices. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing. Assist in setting up, taking down and transporting drilling and service rigs. Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size. Help with the installation, the assembly, and repairs to equipment. Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems, and contact tradespersons for major repairs. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors. Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges. Repair domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems. Install domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems. Supervision: Plumbers. 3-4 people. Gasfitters. 5-10 people. Steamfitters. Pipefitters. Sprinkler system installers. Apprentices. Working groups. Staff in various areas of responsibility. Trades helpers. Labourers.
