Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Veterinary clinic. Animal hospital. Tasks: Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery. Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian. Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian. Conduct and assist in laboratory research. Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry. Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals. Provide wound and bandage care. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Fast-paced environment. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Repetitive tasks. Work under pressure. Physically demanding. Personal suitability: Client focus. Efficient interpersonal skills.
