OSSTF - Education Workers <p>The Near North District School Board <p>requires a <p>1.0 Permanent Indigenous Student Transition and Support Worker - North Region <p>Effective August 28, 2024 The Indigenous Student Transition and Support Worker will work closely with the Indigenous Student Lead and/or School team to assist with leading and implementing programs, services and other supports to meet the unique needs of First Nation, Metis and Inuit students, and their families, with a focus on successful student learning from grade JK-12. The Indigenous Student Transition and Support Worker will report directly to the Principal of Student Achievement and Well-Being with the Indigenous Education Portfolio. Location: North Region includes North Bay and surrounding communities <p>Qualifications: Minimum 2 year post secondary Diploma or Degree in Social Services or a Related Field<p> Demonstrated experience/knowledge of cultural teachings and best practices is required<p> Ojibwe language knowledge/proficiency would be beneficialResponsibilities will include but are not limited to: Establish trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and communities<p> Identify and work to remove barriers to student success<p> Provide guidance and support to identify pathways based on individualized strengths and interests<p> Ensure ongoing open dialogue with families<p> Provide access to resources that foster a sense of belonging<p> Facilitate access to community supports, course planning and mentorship for students<p> Create and enhance a welcoming supportive space for students in various schools with various school staff<p> Build close supportive relationships with students, families, and communities<p> Act as an advocate for students who identify as Indigenous<p> Facilitate strong communication between the schools, families, and First Nation communities<p> Assist with developing and/or enhancing cultural activities in the schools<p> Build and maintain community partnerships with agencies supporting cultural awareness within our schools<p> Provide Cultural SupportAdditional Requirements : Valid Drivers License and reliable vehicle (travel is expected in this position)Rate of pay: $42,000.00 annually All applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada <p> The Near North District School Board is committed to supporting an inclusive and accessible environment.
