Street Haven is a dynamic women?s multi-service agency that provides shelter, supportive housing, training supports, and addictions therapy to vulnerable women in Toronto. We were established in 1965 and serve 1500 individuals annually. We are seeking a professional and passionate candidate to take on this role who can be part of our high performing team and fully run the HR department and related activities at Street Haven.
*Position Overview:*
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing all HR functions at Street Haven. Core HR functions will include: supporting recruitment and onboarding processes, administering benefits and payroll processing, organising training and development programs, assisting with the delivery of performance management procedures, overseeing adherence to organisational policies and procedures as well as provincial and federal legislation, occupational health and safety compliance, and maintaining general HR records and reports.
*This position is based in Toronto and requires an onsite in-person presence.*
*Responsibilities:*
* Handle employee questions and requests regarding HR policies and procedures, compensation and benefit programs, and collective agreements
* Manage HR department documentation and reporting activities relating to all staff data
* Support full-cycle recruitment including posting jobs, screening applications, interview coordination, and completing reference checks and other associated clearances
* Organise onboarding and orientation, employee training and career development programs, and employee recognition efforts
* Provide administrative support to the Director of Operations related to employee relations matters and processes
* Oversee and implement the occupational health and safety program, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements
* Manage the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) process including claims, follow-up, Return to Work plans, and accommodations
* Maintain all electronic and physical HR employee, student, and volunteer records systems, ensuring proper filing, security, access control, and responses to file review requests
* Assist with ad hoc HR projects, including employee feedback surveys and team events
* Perform other routine administrative duties including scheduling team meetings, answering telephones, greeting visitors, photocopying, scanning, faxing, mailing, and filing
*Qualifications:*
* 5+ years of experience delivering full-service HR support, preferably in the non-profit/charitable, or social services sectors
* Post-secondary education in Human Resources
* HR and labour relations experience in a union environment an asset
* CHRP designation (or in process of completion) an asset
* Working knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as active listening and presentation skills
* Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Internet applications
* Ability to remain organised and accurate in a dynamic fast-paced environment with frequently competing demands and priorities
* High degree of self-initiative with a consultative and informative approach
*How We Work:*
This is a full-time role that operates under standards operating business hours (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday, with some evening or weekend requirements. Alongside base salary, following a 6-month probation period, we offer health and dental coverage, 3 weeks paid vacation annually, 12 paid sick days, and 3 paid additional days.
