This position performs technical tasks in planning, coordinating, and delivering work related to the management of the Cloverdale Fairgrounds and other Civic Facilities. Employment StatusUnion - CUPE Local 402 - Regular Full-Time ResponsibilitiesWorks on a variety of projects and tasks to support operations at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds such as gardening, turf maintenance, litter control, weeding, grading, pruning, plant installation, snow removal and ice control. Supports City of Surrey events and programs as required. Provides supervision to junior staff at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds during day-to-day operations and events. Interacting with the public, handling questions and complaints in a tactful and professional manner. Assists in administrating contracts for Parks Division work. Assists in preparing technical reports and maintains records. Performs other job-related duties as required. The successful candidate may expect to work 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, in addition to evenings and weekends as required. QualificationsThe successful candidate is required to meet one of the following criteria:Completion of grade 12, supplemented by successful completion of five additional relevant courses from an approved post-secondary education institution in any of the following course areas (Horticulture, Turfculture, Plant Biology, Arboriculture, Landscape Maintenance, & Landscape Installation/Design). Plus 2 years recent experience in landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction.. Completion of Grade 12 and a Technical Certificate Program (one year full-time) from an approved post-secondary institution, supplemented by 18 months of recent experience in landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction. Completion of a diploma program from an approved post-secondary institution, with a minimum of 6 months recent experience in landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction. You must also:have a valid BC Driver?s License with a safe driving record be physically able to carry work of a heavy manual nature in all weather conditions is an asset. Pesticide Applicator?s License - to be obtained before the completion of probation period. Applicants under consideration will be required to provide proof of qualifications and consent to a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check. www.surrey.ca/careers
