Family School Liaison Worker (FSLW) <p>Full-Time Temporary Position to end June 30 , 202 5 <p>The role of the Family School Liaison Worker (FSLW) is to work collaboratively as part of the school-based team to ensure that students' social and emotional needs are met within the context of an inclusive educational system. FSLW acts as the connection between families, students, educators, and the community. There are four main elements to the role which includes bridging a connection between school and family, connecting families to outside agencies and resources, providing one-on-one and group support for students, and being a valuable resource for students, families, and staff. <p>The responsibilities of these positions will include but are not limited to; Facilitate the relationship between the home and school environment for students and families to encourage regular school attendance and support student achievement<p> Assess student and family needs resulting in the development and implementation of an appropriate intervention plan<p> Make referrals to community organizations as necessary and act as a liaison between schools, community service providers and appropriate agencies<p> Offer individual supportive counselling and skill-building groups to enhance personal strengths, build resiliency, and improve coping and regulation skills <p> Conduct suicide risk assessments and participate on Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) teams as required <p> Be a visible and supportive member of the school community<p> Share information on topics such as mental health, healthy relationships, coping skills, emotional regulation, trauma-informed practice, etc. to increase knowledge and understanding for staff regarding mental wellnessThe hours of work for the full-time position will be 37.5 hours per week Monday through Friday; however, flexibility to work outside regular hours is essential. This role will be a 10-month contract - September to June. The FSLW is required to have a vehicle and valid driver's license to travel between schools and other community agencies as needed.<p>Education and Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Social Work and registered to practice in Alberta<p> Ability to make key judgments and informed decisions for successful outcomes<p> Organization, strong teamwork skills, the ability to prioritize multiple demands, excellent interpersonal skills, time management, flexibility and initiative<p> Ability to work independently in a fast-paced school environment <p> Valid class 5 driver's license, current driver's abstract and access to a reliable vehicle<p> Current Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector) & Child Intervention Check<p> ASIST or similar suicide intervention training (current)<p> Threat-risk assessment training would be an assetExperience Experience working with children and/or youth, families and community service providers<p> Previous school-based experience and knowledge of local resources is an asset<p> A strong understanding of counselling theory and ability to design therapeutic interventions based on presenting needs<p> Knowledge of software applications relevant to the position: google platform, MS Office, Adobe forms<p> Knowledge and understanding of the District vision, structure, policies and proceduresIf you have any questions about this position please contact Claire Petersen, Director of Psychology at Claire.petersen@sd76.ab.ca
