Reporting to the EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) Leader, the EHS Coordinator supports the day-to-day activities of the EHS department. This is a hands-on role that provides leadership to a wide spectrum of work teams, drawing on their previous experience working in industry, knowledge of various legislation and compliance requirements.
As an EHS Coordinator, the role will take a balanced approach to understanding sustainable solutions related to EHS concerns. They will be driven by cross functional engagement, active listening, and turning feedback into action. This team member will demonstrate our Cultural Beliefs while guiding and supporting others engaged in activities related to environment, health, and safety.
Responsibilities:
* Promote a collaborative EHS culture throughout the Kingston Works site
* Craft partnerships to drive engagement with all team members who have concerns and/or ideas for change
* Mentor, coach, and guide all employees within scope of expertise
* Support the development and maintenance of ISO compliance systems, EHS standard operating procedures and work instructions
* Support accident investigations by participating in root-cause analysis and empowering team members to work together towards identifying corrective actions
* Work closely with Site Leadership and team to ensure consistent application of EHS related policies and practices, communicate incidents or policy changes.
* Participating in continuous improvement exercises, using the experiences and knowledge of others to build sustainable solutions
* Ensuring EHS regulatory compliance and where applicable, annual reporting to government, with respect to: Reg. 127: Airborne Contaminant Discharge ? Monitoring and Reporting, Reg. 347: Waste Management (HWIN), Reg. 833 for Exposure to Biological or Chemical agents under the OHSA. Update NOHERA Database.; TDGA, NPRI under EPA and Effluent testing under City of Kingston; and the 11 Designated Substance Regulations
* Be accountable for waste treatment processes such as: facility auditing, data management, record keeping, trend analysis, waste reduction management, 3Rs programs, coordinating all disposals from the site
* Be a resource around WHIMS including management of SDS database, chemical approval, conducting periodic audits of in-plant labelling and hard copy volumes of SDSs, collaborating with JHSC and facilitating related training
* Conduct audits on safety programs including but not limited to LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, Working at Heights and Machine Guarding
* Participate and facilitate safety committee meetings and activities to assist with hazard recognition and identifying safe practices
* Deliver safety training and/or safety messaging to large groups of people in various environments such as town hall meetings, new hire orientation, safety stand downs and practice sharing
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, B.Sc. in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or related engineering degree OR College Diploma in Environment, Hygiene and Work Safety combined with significant related experience
* Experience in an industrial setting with direct involvement in a variety of EHS matters, preferred
* Extensive knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal EHS regulations and industry practices
* Ability to apply strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage and influence others across all levels of the organization
