The District Early Learning Coordinator shall work under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent to: support early learning programs and initiatives throughout the districts catchment area; liaise with community agencies that support early learning initiatives; work as part of a district coordinator team; liaison and support families with children transitioning to school communities; promote early learning initiatives; assist in enhanced implementation of the Early Learning Framework; and participate in the implementation of the Districts Strategic Plan. The District Early Learning Coordinator will assist and support teachers in their classrooms but will not make any evaluation of any teacher. This position involves some evening work. <p>Duties of District Early Learning Coordinator shall include: Commitment to truth, reconciliation, and deep integration of Indigenous ways of knowing.<p> Organize and facilitate community and school based district early learning programs, including but not limited to Roots of Empathy, Mother Goose, SEY2KT, Ready Set Learn, Play and Learn, Story times and Fun Family Literacy Nights. <p> Assist in the identification of and implementation of enhanced opportunities for families transitioning to kindergarten. <p> Facilitate Wendys House and StrongStart centres as needed.<p> Liaison and work with community agencies to support community based early learning initiatives, services and programs i.e. Cowichan Tribes, Public Health, Early Years Table, Regional Library, Cowichan Family Life, Mother Goose, StrongStart, Child Care Centres, Before and After School Care, etc. <p> Coordinate, as needed, meetings with community agencies to support early learning and transitions.<p> Provide learning opportunities for parents to enhance/support the learning of child(ren) (0-8 years) including focused work with transition to kindergarten.<p> Assist in improving instructional/assessment research-based practices in early learning to increase student achievement.<p> Demonstrate lessons in classrooms with appropriate early learning strategies and resources.<p> Assist in developing/implementing the continuum of play based learning aligned to BC curriculum, early learning framework, and self-regulation strategies (i.e. CALM) for primary aged learners.<p> Collaborate with primary school teams and teachers to address diversity in the classroom, struggling learners and inclusive learning practices.<p> Function effectively as part of a district coordinator team.<p> Participation in committee meetings as well as those of board committees, departments, district committees, and principals as required in fulfilling the role of the position.<p> Continue building networks with island early literacy networks and associations.<p> Assist in the implementation of, as well as the data collection and tracking systems for assessments such as district assessments, CHEQ and EDI. <p> Use the data from the above tracking systems to inform and guide practices.<p> Assist in the implementation of the districts literacy, numeracy, and identity, belonging and well being frameworks.<p> Design and communicate gradual entry to kindergarten plans with school administrators, teachers, and families. Qualifications: Strong knowledge of early learning theories and practices ages 0 through 8.<p> Demonstrates strong knowledge of the primary program, early learning framework, district learning inventories and frameworks, and BC curriculum.<p> Strong knowledge of effective research-based assessment practices including AFL.<p> Strong knowledge of action research and inquiry models of learning.<p> Excellent facilitator, interpersonal, and strong communication skills.<p> Proven ability to develop and implement program initiatives.<p> M
