Why and when do I have to provide my Social Insurance Number (SIN)?
You need a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) to access some of Job Bank's tools and services. The use of the SIN helps us provide a safer environment for job seekers and employers.
Your SIN will not be used, retained or shared for any other purpose. SINs are not kept on file and Job Bank officers do not see them.
Your SIN allows Job Bank to:
- verify your identity
- make sure that you only create one user account on Job Bank
- confirm that you’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent or a temporary resident
A SIN is required to:
- access Job Bank for Employers
- create a Plus account for job seekers
A SIN is not required to:
- search jobs and apply to available positions posted on Job Bank
- subscribe to Job Alerts
- create a Standard job seeker account
Important: Job Bank makes sure to preserve the confidentiality of users. Job Bank's use of the SIN is collected in accordance with the Department of Employment and Social Development Act and the Privacy Act.
Visit the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada for more information on Social Insurance Number.
